On January 12, the Board of Adjustment heard further testimony on Archway’s appeal of denial of a conditional use permit to expand into the first story of their building. Archway, a substance abuse treatment center, located on the southeast corner of DeBaliviere and Pershing, has been at this location for 30 years. For the most part, its patients have been residential and its operation has caused little problem.
However, it intends to increase the number of out patients it sees, creating questions regarding traffic, parking, and safety. Archway’s clients often have felony convictions.
The SDCC, Alderman Krewson, Crossroads School, the DeBaliviere Association and several citizens wanted the permit denied. Support for Archway came from their own workers and many who have supported the institution financially. None were residents of Skinker DeBaliviere.
After hearing over two hours of additional testimony on the 12th, the Board of Adjustment adjourned and indicated that they would review all testimony.
They intended to render a decision a month from the hearing date.
