Vacation Tips From The St.Louis Metropolitan Police Department

By St.Louis Metropolitan Police Department

Historical May 1996 article. Dates, prices, services and contacts describe the source period; current availability has not been established.

With the vacation season approaching, 7th District Police would like to review a few ideas that could help prevent crime from occurring.

First, DO NOT LEAVE ANYTHING IN YOUR CAR.. Even an empty bag can attract unwanted attention. Keep your belongings in the trunk where they are not visible to passersby. Second, out-of-state license plates are an attractive target. Keep this in mind as you travel this summer and when people visit you. Don’t publicize your vacation ahead of time. Notify the police of your plans and stop delivery of newspapers and mail when you travel. Arrange to have your lawn mowed. Put automatic timers on your lights. Leave drapes at the normal level.

When using an ATM here or as you travel, go to well-lighted and well-used machines. Try to go with someone. Be aware of your surroundings. Avoid ATMs that are recessed and not easily seen. Do not use ATMs in isolated lobby areas.
