Joe and John Moore, Native Americans and members of the American Indian Center, demonstrated traditional Indian dances across from the Kiosk on Saturday, October 15th, as their father Don Moore explained the meaning of the dances.
One of the dances performed by Joe and John, pictured above, is called a Shield dance and demonstrates that it is better to tap your opponent and escape with high honors, than to hurt him.
The Circle Dance, which demonstrates that everyone is equal, presented an opportunity for the onlookers to join Joe and John in dancing. About 35 people joined hands, danced in a circle, moved to the middle and whooped for joy!
The program, presented by the Kingsbury Kiosk, was given to bring to the attention of the public the need of the American Indian Centers to raise money for food baskets for the 4500 Indians in the greater St. Louis area who are living in poverty.
